Practice History

Bethany Swine Health Services has been serving its local community since 1960. We are located in the Northern Illinois town of Sycamore, approximately 70 miles west of Chicago. The clinic has developed into a 9-veterinarian practice split into two divisions, Companion Animal and Swine Health Services. Currently, four veterinarians work in the Bethany Swine Health Services (BSHS) division.

Michael and Charles Schelkopf, brothers and graduates of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine are co-owners of the practice. Steven Feuerbach joined the practice in 1991 as a recent graduate of Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. His classmate Noel Garbes joined the team in 1998. Together, the four veterinarians bring over 107 years of swine production, veterinary and consulting experience. Ten staff members are essential to the practice and assist our veterinarians in completing a number of tasks on a daily basis.

Bethany Swine Health Services manages ten commercial sow herds (1,200-5,200 head per unit) and one commercial gilt breeding/gestation company. Bethany Swine Health Services provides veterinary consulting services for these units and for a full-service boar stud, over 40,000 sows and approximately 1 million market hogs annually.

The company's major goal is to provide veterinary, management and consulting services based on core animal husbandry skills, health and science to allow our producers to be competitive in the swine industry.
