Disease Management & Veterinary Consulting

Veterinary ConsultingThe prevention, management, control and elimination of disease from individual farms is of the utmost importance in our veterinary practice.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is a very applicable statement when it comes to disease prevention, so we focus heavily on biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction of new disease to our client herds. Once a disease is present in our area, we also work to prevent the spread of disease to neighboring farms. To that end, we are coordinating and facilitating a Porcine Reproductive Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) Area & Regional Control (ARC) program for the greater DeKalb County area in northern Illinois. This program seeks to identify where PRRS is present, and develop integrated plans with area farms for its control and elimination. The framework that is in place is also being used to monitor the introduction and spread of Swine Enteric Coronavirus Disease (SECDs), mainly Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) and Porcine Deltacoronavirus (PDCoV). Contact Noel Garbes or Carrie Pollard for information regarding our PRRS ARC program.

Bethany Swine Health Services also participates in the Illinois Swine Health Network, and the national Swine Health Monitoring Project to monitor PRRS, SECD, and INFLUENZA status.

Our veterinarians also tailor vaccination and control strategies to your specific farm concerns for many other diseases of importance to the swine industry.
